1) Fingal Film Festival
Taking place in Swords, Co. Dublin over the weekend of the 25th of September is the 4th Fingal Film Festival. Having launched in 2012 it’s gone from strength to strength offering a platform encouraging and promoting the works of the local film community, National and International emerging filmmakers to showcase their work in an environment where they have access to experienced industry professionals.
The schedule will be released in the coming days so keep an eye on their website.
We can tell you that their opening night film will be Surviving Auschwitz – a true story, based on a Tunisian Jewish boxer, who became the World Flyweight Champion in 1931 and 1932. He was arrested in Paris in September 1943 and detained in the Drancy internment camp France, before being transported to Auschwitz. He was forced to participate in boxing matches for the amusement of the Nazis. By 1945. Victor had survived 140 bouts in 15 months and won 139.
Tickets can be purchased on tickets.ie and there is an early bird deal on all screenings for tickets purchased before the 8th of September.
2) Help fund short movie Jar
Pre-production is under way on a new short sci-fi drama, Jar, written by Wayne Doherty and Simon Murphy of Primevil Prints, a new Dublin based Production Company.
It is set in a Dublin suburb in the 1980s and the story follows three children over the course of a summer as they attempt to escape their mundane realities and troubled home lives through comic books, monster movies and science fiction. While out fishing in a stream one day, they catch something that will change their world forever. The movie will feature young actors from Dance Agency Ireland: Darragh Tobin, Dylan Bennett and Emma Meyer.

3) Wes Craven R.I.P.
Passing away on Monday at the age of 76 Wes Craven left an impressive legacy in the horror genre. It was The Last House on The Left that gave him his start an early video nasty. Yet the film that exploded him into the wider world in 1984 was A Nightmare on Elm Street with one of cinema’s most memorable characters; Freddy Krueger. He reinvented the wheel again in 1996 with the scream franchise managing to get life out of a somewhat tired genre. Below are some of the better known scenes from his films.
4) An Klondike comes to TG4
Spooool was lucky enough to get to see An Klondike at this years Galway Film Fleadh and as with An Bronntanas, an extended version can be seen on TG4 where it will go into greater depth about the Connolly brothers adventures in the Yukon in Alaska from September 8th. A real súil eile.
5) Spectre has a new poster
Spectre has only gone an got a new poster and in a turn up for the books it seems like it will star Papa Lazarou from The League of Gentlemen!
