Now being a fine county for all things fishy we are not talking about how Kerry has some of the best lobster in the country but the fact that the Kerry Film Festival has secured the Irish premiere of The Lobster.

The film was shot in Kerry and thus has secured a parallel screening of the film. The film screening is next Thursday in the Killarney cinema. More information can be found here.

The festival proper will run from the 21st to the 25th of October and we’ll have more information during the month about its programme.

Yes the director of disaster movie classic The Towering Inferno has passed away at the age of 89. He also directed over 40 films with notable highlights including King Kong in 1976 starring Jeff Bridges and Death on the Nile starring Peter Ustinov as Poirot. He will be chiefly remembered for getting two of the biggest names in cinema at the time on screen, namely Paul Newman and Steve McQueen. Don’t forgot it stars OJ Simpson. Below is a classic scene.

Trainspotting

Danny Boyle has confirmed that Trainspotting 2 will be filmed next year 20 years after the original was released. It will star all original cast members.

He spoke to the folks over at THR and confirmed that filming will most likely take place next May or June with a possible release date for the end of the year. It will be loosely based on Irvine Welsh’s follow up book Porno. They’re planning to do it all for under $20 million so as to keep meddling hands away. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan. Go on Begbie.

We won’t get to see this until January of next year but based on the fist full length trailer it’ll be worth the wait. It’s Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s latest film, having picked up the Oscar for his last offering Birdman.

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the lead, playing a frontiers man who was left for dead after a bear mauling. He then goes on a rampage 1820s style against Tom Hardy, oh and Domhnall Gleeson appears to be there also for good measure.
